Grammys 2008

11 02 2008

Ok so I wanted to talk a little bit about last night’s grammy awards.

I am proud of Kayne West for taking home four wins in all the rap categories, but to be honest, well, the contenders weren’t that impressive, save for a few. ( I do like “Ayo Technology”)

Secondly, Herbie Hancock won album of the year. Yawn. I know he is a fantastic jazz artist, but, well…I guess looking at the list, however, no one comes close to his caliber of musicanship. Just not my cup of tea, I guess.

Next, Amy Winehouse won best new artist? I mean, I do love her voice, and her oldy-timey girl group style, I’m just surprised they picked her. Nothing like a cracked out Brit to take home gold. Better than those low-talent emo scratch bands like Paramore. Or country darling Taylor Swift. Blah.

Finally, The Foo Fighters won best rock album for Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace. Pretty suprise to me, since the critics were pretty lukewarm about the whole thing. When I compare it to their other wins, Best Rock Albums There is Nothing Left to Lose and One by One, it does seem a bit lackluster. Of course, had Daughtry won, I probably would have gauged my ears out. Nothing makes me madder than a watered down rock group fronted by an ex-American Idol contender. Oh, and I have been over Bruce Springsteen for about, um, my whole life. Still a better pick than Daughtry.

That’s all I have to say. Actually, no, where did all these Justin Timberlake nominations and wins come from? Wasn’t FutureSex/Love Sounds last year?? Well, either way, I think its a fantastic album. Not gonna lie.

That’s all.

So you’ve stumbled upon UGroove Music, a little blog where four kids (well, one of us is an adult but we don’t like to talk about it) with a mission to write about the musical happenings in and around the University of Georgia. Athens, Ga., has a thriving music scene, and is only about a two-hour drive from the shows in Atlanta. Go ahead. Read what we have to say. We all have different opinions, backgrounds, tastes in music, and lives, but we have this in common: We all love music and can write a damn good review.
